Kunle Afolayanreleased his trailer to the much anticipated October 1st movie on his 37th birthday! I can’t think of a cooler way to gift oneself. The iconic director is so inspiring because of the fact that against all the odds and opposition from his own father, he has still become a household name. His father is also an icon in the directing world of Nollywood, but insisted that his son should not follow his footsteps and ensured that Kunle pursued an accounting degree.
In 2005 Kunle had had enough and began the courageous task of chasing his dream. Thank God!! Who knows what the standards of Nollywood would be like without him and his amazing films! A recipient of high-status awards at African Film Academy and NollywoodParis Week, a monster of budget (2 million dollars!), a heart warming story and international cast this film was great from conception! It’s put Africa and Nollywood specifically on the global playing field. It has brought everything we love about international movies to the local level.
The movie is set in 1960 just as Nigeria is about to win the battle for independence. The film is a psychological thriller following the life of a police detective from the North, Dan Waziri who has to bring a powerful prince in the west to justice for killing women. With a deadline of October 1st he doesn’t have time on his side and it makes for really good entertainment.
Knowing what you know now, what reason could you possibly have for not wanting to watch it??
