AGBI GALA WAS A SUCCESS

The Africa Gives Back International gala on March 7th 2015 was the first one of its kind. The gala’s mission was towards Ebola medical relief. It was also a celebration of Africans in the diaspora coming together for a common purpose. This was a successful sold-out event. The festivities highlighted African talent in music (with performances by artists such as Smart Deey and Shady Baby), in fashion (with fashion shows of brands such asLush Vices, Bernan, Nikki Billie Jean, Lavie By CK Unique By Reelia and Timmy Ajulo ), and in entertainment ( the host is an aspiring media personality named Flapp Jack aka Aisha, and we had a dazzling dance performance by the Afrochique Dance Troupe). The large audience was filled with a diversified crowd mainly dressed in African print apparel: Entrepreneurs, Caucasians, Africans from multiple corners of Africa, and African Americans.

In the words of the guest of honor Esq. Lawyer Abubakar Kalokoh, “Jesus said love thy neighbor as you love yourself. We have a responsibility to put our selfishness aside and put ourselves to the service of mankind. ”
As he went on during his speech, he also pointed out an interesting fact that should resonate with Africans in the diaspora: “We’re here as ambassadors for our people. This AGBIgala group is leading the way in helping our people. “

The organizing committee of the AGBIgala wants to portray an image of the Africa that gives back as well, the Africa that helps. As such, this year’s country of choice to send medical supplies was Sierra Leone. However, future countries chosen to reach out to could even be in Asia. Next year’s country has not been chosen yet. However, we do know that the focus will be on a big and domestic issue.

Stay tuned for next year’s event!
