December 20, 2014, Farafina Café & Lounge, New York, Pan-African inspired fashion house, 54 Kingdoms will host its third annual Storytellers in Fashion showcase. Since its inception in 2012, Storytellers in Fashion has become a must-attend event in New York City around the holidays, while serving as a platform for other emerging artists to share their stories through different creative outlets such as music, poetry, comedy, etc.
This year’s fashion segment will focus on the company’s Score For Unity (SFU) collection released to celebrate Algeria, Cameroon, Côte D’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria; Africa’s representatives at the 2014 World Soccer Championship held in Brazil. The SFU collection has been featured on Entrepreneur Magazine, Afrikan Spot Magazine, Inspire Afrika Magazine, Africa.com, Africa Is A Country, and many online media platforms.
Hosted by Fatima Sesay of Inside the Diaspora on Sahara TV, the evening will be accompanied with special performances by pop singer and songwriter, Chris Akinyemi, whose first single ‘Radio’ has been featured on MTVU the Freshmen, MTV, BET and VH1. Jallow, who believes trash can be turned into art, will exhibit a live painting during the Meet The Artists / Networking hour of the event at 6PM. Lastly, songwriter Rafiya returns to the Storytellers In Fashion stage for a special performance including SFU theme song, Team Africa.
